What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is a digital currency created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, designed to be a peer-to-peer online currency, which means that all transactions take place between equal, independent network users without the need for a middleman to allow or facilitate them. Bitcoin was designed to allow “online payments to be made directly from one party to another without passing via a banking institution,” in Satoshi Nakamoto’s words.
The Bitcoin blockchain uses the Proof-of-Work consensus to secure the network. Nowadays, bitcoin is considered one of the most secure store of value, sometimes considered as “digital gold”.
